I'll not look back

I’ll not look back for that is a useless effort,

I can not live one moment of yesterday again,

If I have wasted time and talents given

If I have caused someone I love deep pain

I can not change the words or acts by grieving

But I can make today a shining light,

Yesterday’s page with all mistakes

I’ll turn away from

And find before me a clean one

on which to write.

I’ll pray for strength to make today’s page spotless

That tomorrow I’ll have no regret,

And may God grant that all tomorrows

My talents will be used for good, not one misspent.

A few pearls of Sanskrit...

गते शोको न कर्तव्यो भविष्यं नैव चिन्तयेत् ।

वर्तमानेन  कालेन वर्तयन्ति विचक्षणाः॥

बीते हुए समय का शोक नहीं करना चाहिए और भविष्य के लिए परेशान नहीं होना चाहिए, बुद्धिमान तो वर्तमान में ही कार्य करते हैं ॥

One should not mourn over the past and should not remain worried about the future. The wise operate in present.

पुनः प्रभातं पुनरेव शर्वरी

पुनः शशांकः पुनरुद्यते रविः ।

कालस्य किं गच्छति याति यौवनं

तथापि लोकः कथितं न बुध्यते ॥

फिर से प्रभात, फिर से रात्रि, फिर से चंद्र, और फिर से सूरज का उगना ! काल का क्या जाता है ? कुछ नहीं; यह तो यौवन जाता है, (पर) लोग कहाँ समज़ते हैं ?

Again a morning and again a night, again a moon and again a sun. Nothing passes but the youth. In spite of all people do not realize.

आयुषः क्षण एकोऽपि सर्वरत्नैर्न न लभ्यते।

नीयते स वृथा येन प्रमादः सुमहानहो ॥

आयु का एक क्षण भी सारे रत्नों को देने से प्राप्त नहीं किया जा सकता है, अतः इसको व्यर्थ में नष्ट कर देना महान असावधानी है॥

Even a single second in life cannot be obtained back by all precious jewels. Hence spending it wastefully is a great mistake.

क्षणशः कणशश्चैव विद्यामर्थं च साधयेत् ।

क्षणे नष्टे कुतो विद्या कणे नष्टे कुतो धनम् ॥

एक एक क्षण गवाये बिना विद्या पानी चाहिए; और एक एक कण बचा करके धन ईकट्ठा करना चाहिए । क्षण गवानेवाले को विद्या कहाँ, और कण को क्षुद्र समजनेवाले को धन कहाँ ?

One should acquire knowledge without wasting a moment and accumulate wealth without wasting a bit. If we waste a moment knowledge cannot be gained and if we waste a bit wealth cannot be accumulated.
