Out in the fields with God
Hurry, worry and curry! Isn’t it describing our lives? We run behind the success and invite worries. We haste in achieving worldly possessions. And in celerity, we miss enjoying life. Life is beautiful, when we enjoy it fully.
Here is a wonderful poem about living a life with joy. The poet wonders in nature and loses petty cares. Among the play of winds and rustling of trees, among the singing of birds and humming of bees, he forgets niggling of life. Nature is the divine creation of God. As it hasn’t ego, when wonder in it, ruffles of life turns into smooth.
Sometimes we feel down due to foolish fears of what may happen. We may feel blue due to imaginary menace. The poet cast it away in husking of the corn and nodding of drowsy poppies.
He finds the presence of God in nature. Where ill thoughts die and good thoughts are born. Understanding of nearness of God makes us happy in all situations. In pain and pine, when we feel that God is with me and within me, it makes us happy. This is the real devotional wisdom according to Vedic Philosophy.
Here is the poem:
The little cares that fretted me,
I lost them yesterday
Among the fields above the sea,
Among the winds at play;
Among the lowing of the herds,
The rustling of the trees,
Among the singing of the birds,
The humming of the bees.
The foolish fears of what may happen--
I cast them all away
Among the clover-scented grass,
Among the new-mown hay;
Among the husking of the corn
Where drowsy poppies nod,
Where ill thoughts die and good are born,
Out in the fields with God.

The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our power;
little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
