Master of thought verses

It is wisely said that what we think we become. We must take care of our thoughts. What we think, we feel it. And it influences our actions. Company of good thoughts makes us the master of self. After all light of knowledge illumines.

Knowledge is the highest good. And the reason is the highest good. Intellect is the invaluable gift of God. Through the medium of intellect, only a man can rise or fall.

Here are a few verses and quotes selected to enlighten self. These are my favorite ones and gems of wisdom:

Watch your thoughts for they become words.
Watch your words for they become actions.
Watch your actions for they become…habits.
Watch your habits, for they become your character.
And watch your character, for it becomes your destiny!
What we think we become!

~ Lao Tzu

*****

By Thought we rise; by Thought we fall; by Thought
We stand or go: all destiny is wrought
By its swift potency; and he who stands
Master of Thought, and his desires commands,
Willing and weaving thoughts of Love and Might,
Shapes his high end in Truth’s unerring Light.

~ James Allen

*****

We scatter seeds with a careless hand
And dreams we ne'er shall see them more:
But for a thousand years
Their fruit appears
In weeds that mar the land,
Or healthful store.

The deeds we do the words we say
Into still air they seem to float;
We count them ever past
They shall last,
In the dread judgment, they
And we shall meet.

Life is a game of cards
You did not invent the game
Nor did you frame the rules
You have no control over the cards dealt with you
But you are there to play
A good player, even with a bad hand of cards,
Will play well and emerge a winner.
A bad player, even with the best of cards,
Will play badly and lose.

*****

Stone walls do not a prison make,
Nor iron bars a cage;
Minds innocent and quiet take
That for a hermitage.

If I have freedom in my love,
And in my soul am free,
Angels alone, that soar above,
Enjoy such liberty.

~ Richard Lovelace

*****

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

~ William Ernest Henley

You are what your deep, driving desire is
As your desire is, so is your will
As your will is, so is your deed
As your deed is, so is your destiny
~ Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, 4.4.5

Knowledge of the Divine dissolves all bonds and gives freedom from every kind of misery including birth and death.

You may drink the ocean dry; you may uproot from its base the mountain Meru; you may swallow fire. But more difficult than all these, oh Good One! is control over the mind.
