Slow and steady wins the race!

Image
Once upon a time, there lived a hare in a forest. He was very speedy in movement and was always proud of his speed. A tortoise also lived nearby. The hare always teased the tortoise for his slow speed. It has a heavy shell on its back. Its legs are short. So, it cannot move as fast as other animals. The hare always teased the tortoise for his slow speed. One day while the hare cut a joke at the tortoise for its slow speed, the latter challenged the hare and agreed to run a race. At this, the hare was much amused. So he said, “Good”, let’s fix a date for the race. They fixed a date. A fox came to see the race. The tortoise and the hare came to the starting point. The race began. The hare began to run very fast. He jumped and jumped. He ran a kilometer in a few minutes. Soon he found the tortoise far behind him. He became sure of success. Then he stopped. He said to himself. What’s the use of going so fast? Perhaps, the tortoise has covered only a few yards by this time. So, I can ...

In the search for happiness

Image
In the search for happiness. The ever wondering quest of mankind. We run after worldly wealth but many times we miss the inner wealth. The spring of happiness sprouts within us. It resides within us.  Here is a small Hindi poem, the poet searches for happiness, and finally he realizes that it’s nowhere else but in the small things around us. It’s in gifts that God has been cherished with us. It’s in Gratitude. It’s in feeling thankful for what we have.  Never count on lack of life, but always count on haves of life. What we have matters greater than what we don’t have. It’s the greatest lesson in life. Practice Gratitude to be happy. Cultivate satisfaction to feel joy. Here is a Poem:

An interview with God

Image
Once upon a time, a man dreamed of an interview with God. Isn’t it astonishing to know; what kind of questions would have been asked to God? It’s a wonderful imagination of questions and answers, gives the real meaning to the understanding of life. In this race of success, we may forget the value of life and family. We may run after the material happiness and ignore the inner ecstasy. We may give priority to the profession, and forget to enjoy the colors of life. We may forget the nearness of God. This poem makes us realize it. It makes us think that what is important in life. Here it goes: I dreamed I had an interview with God. "So, you would like to interview me?" God asked. "If you have the time," I said. God smiled. "My time is eternity; what questions do you have in mind to ask me?" "What surprises you most about humankind?" God answered: "That they get bored with childhood -- they rush to grow up and then long to be children again. Tha...

Spiritual Intelligence: The divine wisdom to grow

Image
We are living in the most technologically advanced age. In this emerging era of information technology, artificial intelligence has changed the face of our lives. We fly in the sky, we swim under the water, and we run fast upon the earth. What's not possible with the help of science and technology? But one thing we also need to consider is that the modern age has given birth to conflict with competition, stress with turmoils, and fear with uncertainty. Everyone is ambitious to be successful. In this race of success, we might be a victim of failures and setbacks. Unease and distress may agitate us. We may be stuck in our minds. So here is a kind of intelligence that can help us. In earlier times, only IQ was considered to be successful. But with time, experts realized that with IQ, man must nurture EQ to be successful. Now the new insights revealed that man must cultivate SQ as the core quality in life. Whatever happens in life, worst or best, if we have divine wisdom as an undercur...

Victory of a virtuous soul

Image
What we feel important in life? Name, fame, and money! We may run after material happiness for a whole life. Isn’t it the greatest illusion of our lives? What is finite, we seek it. What is infinite we ignore it. What is visible, we feel it’s truth. What is invisible, we feel it’s false. Actually, the truth is truth whether it’s seen or unseen. We need to awaken the self. We need to enlighten the self. We need to know the truth: what is never lasting and what is everlasting?      Here in this poem, the poet depicts the victory of the virtuous soul. Worldly possessions are short and having limitations. Of course, it gives happiness but it’s limited. While human virtues and values are limitless. They are invaluable and boundless. They give the real eternal bliss. They give immense strength and vigor. They stay with us forever, even after death.  What seems so beautiful, it fades with time. What seems so wealthy, it wanes with time. Even the...

Hold thy faith firm, my heart!

Image
Faith, faith, faith. Faith in self and faith in God. And faith in invariant principles of the holy scriptures. Faith is one of the most important qualities in life. One who loses faith will be negative. And one who holds faith will be positive.  When we put effort and it doesn’t turn into success, we get disappointed. We may mourn and throb in pang. We may stop putting our forth. But when we have faith in the heart, we will try again. We will continue. Faith whispers: Try again, it will give result one day. One who has no faith will quit, but one who has faith will sail on calmly.  Failure may cause a loss of faith. The company of a negative and selfish people may cause a loss of faith. Or any other external factor may also cause it. But wherever we are, with whom so ever we are, it’s completely upon us to hold faith. Don’t let others overwhelm. Let the inner bird sing whatever the situation is.  Nature has the best example of it. When we saw a seed, doe...

What is noble?

Image
What is noble? To inherit wealth? Having an estate? Possessing a high degree? What is truly noble? Let’s have a few thoughts with a noble poem. We find nobility in acts done for social welfare. We may find nobility in donating food, shelter, and clothes to the poor. We may find it in rescuing the needy from calamity. We may find it in helping others. Any act done out of kindness and mercy, we call it noble. But we may get fame out of it. Our ego may get boosted in giving. Only a man himself and God can observe the purpose of the act.   Surely the kind act is noble. But true nobility has higher merit. In this little poem, the poet says that it’s something greater far must enter into life’s majestic span. True nobility resides within the finer portion of the mind and heart that is linked with divinity. It’s in the upliftment of a man. When we feel oneness with others. When we feel divinity in relationship with others. When we feel the divine brotherhood that br...

Shake it off and step up

Image
One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey. He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well.  At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement, he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off! Life is g...
